Tournament Rules

 

 

1.    This chess tournament is organized by the Institution Oberena, sponsored by the Government of Navarre and the City council of Pamplona and it is recognized officially by FIDE. This tournament fullfils FIDE’s effective regulations.

 

2.    The schedule of the event is:

Participants' reception and drawing of lots will take place on December 21 at 9:00 PM in Iruña Park Hotel.

All the games will be played in Iruña Park Hotel.

The closing ceremony and delivery of prizes will take place on December 29 at 9 PM in Iruña Park Hotel.

The pairings for the successive rounds will be:

  • 1st R.: 22, 5 PM: 1-8, 2-7, 3-6 and 4-5.
  • 2nd R.: 23, 4 PM: 8-5, 6-4, 7-3 and 1-2.
  • 3rd R.: 24, 4 PM: 2-8, 3-1, 4-7 and 5-6.
  • 4th R.: 26, 4 PM: 8-6, 7-5, 1-4 and 2-3.
  • 5th R.: 27, 4 PM: 3-8, 4-2, 5-1 and 6-7.
  • 6th R.: 28, 4 PM: 8-7, 1-6, 2-5 and 3-4.
  • 7th R.: 29, 4 PM: 4-8, 5-3, 6-2 and 7-1.

 

3.    The time control will be 120 minutes for all the moves, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from the first move. The games shall be played with digital clocks.

 

4.    Before the beginning of the tournament, it will be designated an Appeals Committee, integrated by:

  • Two regular players and two substitutes, previously designated.
  • The Tournament Director (substitute: organization representative).

The Tournament Director will act as Chairman of this Committee.

The claims will be presented in writing in the maximum term of one hour after the finalization of the game.

 

5.    The final ranking will be made according to the next tie-breaks applied in the following order:

  1. Sonnenborg-Berger.
  2. particular Result.
  3. Number of victories.

 

6.    The prizes will be split in two parts, one by means of final ranking and another for number of victories.

The relative to final ranking will be as follows:

  • 1st place 2.000 €
  • 2nd place 1.000 €
  • 3rd place 500 €

This prizes will be equally split among the tied players.

The second part, until a total of 3.500 € will be equally split according to the number of victories achieved in the tournament.

The prizes higher than 500’00 € will suffer the proper tax retention (25% for foreign players, 15% for Spanish players).

 

7.    The players commit not to withdraw from the Tournament (except for non fulfillment from the part of the Organizers of the previously agreed economic conditions or proven force adult —illness or inability—), accepting the present Regulations.

 

8.    The double withdrawal to the games will suppose the elimination of the tournament.

 

9.    If a player withdraws to a game, he could be asked to prove justification. If he fails, he will lose the right to the hired money and to any prize.
